The fellows are actively involved in multidisciplinary tumor boards, didactic lectures, unknown conferences, and anatomic pathology grand rounds. Service duties consist of daily preview of in-house and consultation cases, independent interpretation of intraoperative consultations, and surgical pathology call coverage. Elective rotations in Cytopathology, Medical Renal Pathology, Pediatric Pathology, Neuropathology, and/or translational research are also available.įive fellows are appointed annually. While on the frozen section service, the fellow will have graduated autonomy and an opportunity for independent sign out.

We offer a robust experience with frozen section/intraoperative consultations, with > 5,000 annual intraoperative consultations. The fellow will also interact with faculty in the divisions of hematopathology, pediatric pathology, renal pathology, and neuropathology. The fellow will be under the supervision of 24 faculty members in the Division of Anatomic Pathology with broad experience in gastrointestinal, breast, bone/soft tissue, head and neck, endocrine, thoracic, gynecologic, genitourinary, cardiac, and transplant pathology. The program provides trainees exposure to a tertiary referral center handling approximately 50,000 adult accessions per year. The program offers the opportunity for focus in a desired sub-specialty area of the fellows choosing in breast, head and neck, gastrointestinal, gynecologic, and/or genitourinary pathology. The Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, offers a one-year fellowship in Surgical Pathology.
